God wanted all of Egypt to understand that He was the one true God. There’s no question that it was God who hardened Pharaoh’s heart. Why doesn’t God just help me out here a little? maybe you’ve looked up to God some time and wondered, God, why are you doing things the hard way? It would be so much easier if you would only _. Why doesn’t God just give each local church a full-time pastor and a healthy bank balance?.Why doesn’t God just restore the relationship?.Why doesn’t God just solve the problem?.You’ve wondered why God seems to do things the hard way? Perhaps you’ve experienced a little bit of this yourself. Imagine after he went to Pharaoh, and was rejected, time and time again, and even after the Israelites themselves get frustrated with him. He was reluctant to go in the first place. But no, what does God do? He makes things difficult by hardening Pharaoh’s heart! And so, when I read the story of Moses going up to Pharaoh time and time again, with plague after plague, it made me wonder… why did God do things the hard way? Poor Moses was probably wondering the same thing. Then we would figure out the quickest, easiest way of doing that. If God left us to do the planning, we would put down on a piece of paper what the objective was ‘to get the Israelites out of Egypt and into the Promised Land.’ People don’t usually try to do things the hard way. People don’t usually take the long way home on purpose. Usually, when we try to do something, we tend to do it the quickest and easiest way. This way of living is quite foreign to us. Kennedy said on the 12th of September, 1962 “We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.” That meant to risk his life confronting the Pharaoh and then God turns around and says, in effect, “Oh, by the way, Pharaoh isn’t going to listen to you.” In our reading today, you may have noticed something strange: God commanded Moses to go to Egypt. Then I will lay my hand on Egypt and with mighty acts of judgment I will bring out my divisions, my people the Israelites.” Exodus 7:3-4 Key Verses: “But I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and though I multiply my signs and wonders in Egypt, 4 he will not listen to you.
